What people say about our workshops

New perspectives on managing, leading and governing in medium to large service organisations

  • “I very much enjoyed the transitions workshop. It created some quite testing questions in my mind ….Were we enabling the transitions that needed to happen as a board?   ….it was a great day to sort of test some of those things (succession planning and Board composition).”   Board Chair
  • “I am conscious of managing transitions, but these tools/concepts really help clarify some of the transitional issues”.    CEO Service provider
  • “Extremely valuable course …. the right mix of organisational theory and practical application”    Board chair, Health service provider
  • “I appreciated clear theoretical concepts that can be applied – valuable model. Also fun to participate, especially in group sessions.”  Senior staff member
  • “Really practical tools to identify where our organisation is at and to establish critical gaps and actions needed.  Really good definitions of capacity and capability.”

What they liked best

  • Spending a whole day focussed at a high level on my organisation’s direction and journey past and present and future and with the chair of my board
  • Loved the model.  Particularly relevant to a time of organisational change
  • The opportunity to focus and discuss organisational structure and function within the framework provided.

Managing transition in small community organisations

  • The last session filling in the blanks [on the Model chart] has made a huge difference to the project I am working on. Taking an organisational perspective was just what the project needed. I talked with my Manager today and felt the invisible burden lifting off my shoulders. Actually the tool for analysis was just the ticket to find out why I was so uncomfortable at times and out of my depth. We now have a solid plan to bring the organisation in to support the project and I feel less out on a limb!  (Project co-ordinator, Taranaki City Council)
  • The combination of theory and practical application for learning the CGO model was very helpful.  Working with different people in the workshop was useful as well.
  • The models and concept, having the handouts and the book to buy.  I can think and process it more.   (CEO, youth organisation)
  • Different components of the CGO Development Model gave an ability to understand current organisation status and the different levels of work and who is defined in these roles. (Community development manager)

What they liked best:

  • Research into how our NZ community organisations can be more effective. (Community worker)
